It was only a matter of time before Ellevest featured Lena Waithe as a part of their #FinancialFeministFriday series. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you would know Waithe is flipping the script on Hollywood.

“There’s a shift that’s happening. There’s a transition of power,”

as Waithe describes it. From becoming the first black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series last year to the work she’s creating and producing on the series “Chi,” Lena Waithe is just getting started. And when she’s not acting, writing, producing, etc., she’s helping other people of color and LGBTQ community members get their footing in Hollywood. She currently serves as co-chair of the Committee of Black Writers at the Writers Guild, and is one of the established professionals providing aspiring writers feedback on their materials through Franklin Leonard’s The Black List.

“Being born a gay Black female is not a revolutionary act. Being proud to be a gay Black female is.”

Thank you, Lena, for being unabashedly you — and in doing so, allowing other women to follow suit.
